Do you have arthritis? Dry skin? Menstrual cramps? Sleep disorders or feeling of stress? The CBD industry claims it has the cure for you.
Such claims are becoming increasingly common – and brazen – as the cannabis compound known as CBD increases in beverages, baked goods, tinctures, body lotions and even bath salts. For some, the hype reflects snake oil advertising from the 19th century, which promised to "cure all pain!"
Although it is generally believed that CBD is safe, the medical and health benefits of CBD have been sparsely studied, as cannabis has long been banned at the federal level. The only clinically proven drug is treatment for two rare forms of childhood epilepsy. All other claims are anecdotal.
