2018 Hemp Breeding Act, launched by Senator Mitch McConnell

Hemp could be made legal again completely and explicitly by a new bill that the chairman of the US Senate presented on Thursday.

With the Hemp Farming Act by Mitch McConnell from 2018, the majority leader of the Senate wants to establish hemp as an agricultural commodity, protect state regimes, build up crop insurance and strengthen research. And right away the calculation raises questions as to whether these CBD-rich extracts obtained from hemp are actually legal:

“The term“ hemp ”means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of this plant, including its seeds and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts and salts of isomers, regardless of whether they grow or not. with a Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent, based on the dry weight. "

The proposed law, if successful, would end the debate that cut the hemp plant into pieces and end interpretations that hemp extracts rich in cannabinol and other cannabinoids are illegal substances, say hemp proponents.

"Even if we believe that the Farm Bill language, which was 'all parts of the plant' (established legality for extracts), it could not be clearer that hemp, the plant, hemp extracts, hemp derivatives, hemp – Derived CBD … they are all legalized, "said Jonathan Miller, legal adviser to the US Hemp Roundtable, an organization campaigning for a stricter federal hemp law.

The 2018 Hemp Cultivation Act was jointly introduced by Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore).

"By legalizing hemp and empowering states to run their own supervisory plans, we can give the hemp industry the tools to create jobs and new opportunities for farmers and producers across the country," said McConnell, R -Ky a statement.
