Medical research on the remedy of COVID-19 with hashish start in Israel – firebird-cbdoil
Two Israeli companies have started clinical trials to determine whether CBD in combination with other drugs that are threatened by COVID-19 can save lives.
The Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva is investigating whether CBD with certain steroids can control the infection caused by the novel corona virus. The study is led by partnerships with Stero Biotech, an Israeli CBD company, and Clalit, Israel's largest HMO.
"We estimate that our CBD-based treatment can improve current treatment for patients with life-threatening conditions," said David Bass, founder and CEO of Stero Biotech, in a press release. “COVID-19 patients in the hospital are mainly treated with steroids. Our study is designed to demonstrate the benefits of a combined solution with steroid treatments. We are confident that this study will deliver faster benefits to the growing number of COVID-19 patients in Israel and around the world. "
A second clinical CBD trial is being conducted through a partnership between the University of Tel Aviv and InnoCan Pharma. And this is somewhat unconventional: the treatment delivers CBD via exosomes. Exosomes are cell structures that stem cells produce as they multiply. In other words, InnoCan and the university believe that the exosomes act like "homing missiles" and target specific cells that have been damaged by COVID-19. The CBD will only go to these cells and to these cells.
How could CBD, a non-intoxicating component of weeds, possibly treat COVID-19? The disease triggers a severe form of pneumonia that can lead to respiratory failure. Although older patients who also have diabetes, high blood pressure or obesity are at risk for dying from COVID-19, younger, healthier people can also die from it.
The novel corona virus itself is not what actually kills people. It is the immune system's response to the disease that is fatal. When COVID-19 pneumonia reaches its advanced stage, the body starts a "cytokine storm", a final attempt to eliminate the virus. Cytokines are proteins that signal immune cells to "attack" here, but a cytokine storm floods the lungs with this signal and instead kills the patient.
Here is another way to think about the cytokine storm. Imagine a Navy SEAL has just provided coordinates for jets to bomb an enemy airfield. But instead of dropping smaller bombs to target the airfield, the jets instead drop nuclear weapons and destroy half the country. The nuclear weapons are the cytokine storm.
Currently, doctors around the world can control or even stop the cytokine storm in COVID-19 patients with high steroid consumption, which can weaken the immune system. Numerous studies have shown that CBD can also weaken the body's immune response, but in a different way than steroids. The idea is that if doctors can double with both CBD and steroids, COVID-19 will double-strike against inflammation and possibly save far more lives than with steroids alone.
"[W] We know that cannabis has anti-inflammatory properties, and if it succeeds in stopping the cytokine storm [in COVID-19 patients] it would be very big news," said Professor Alon Grosman, head of internal medicine at Beilinson Hospital after Cannigma .
Canadian researchers are also investigating whether cannabinoids can help treat COVID-19. Note, however, that these studies are just beginning. Researchers don't know if CBD will do anything to steroids or stem cells COVID-19. So be careful with Huckster snake oil vendors who claim that CBD or weeds will cure COVID-19. Smoking everything, even cannabis, could make the coronavirus infection worse.
